What do U2 and Motley Crue have to do with each other and fashionable music? This Friday I had an important decision to make. What music am I going to spin at the Spring 2007 Preview fashion show at the Tiara Café in downtown Los Angeles? Here is the dilemma. Designers want certain music for their line, but designers are designers not good DJs at all. I was cool enough to let them give their input and 2 out of the 6 designers sent me music that worked, 2 let me chose, and 2 sent me songs that didn’t work. I was thinking about just putting it in just to make them happy. Then I thought about it, my rep as a DJ is on the line. To make it a bigger dilemma Daniel Lanois was attending the show. THERE IS NO WAY IN HELL I AM GOING TO PLAY GWEN STEFANI’S AIN’T NO HOLLA BACK GIRL, when the one of the best producers of all time is in the audience. I mean come on he produced U2, Willie Nelson, Emmylou Harris, and Bob Dylan to name a few. The line that chose Gwen was Vince Neil from Motley Crue’s ex wife’s. I didn’t want to make an ass of myself so I replaced it with Pretty in Pink by the Psychedelic Furs and the other one with a Fashion Rules, by Chicks on Speed. In the end they confronted me on camera, right before I was going to drop in the last song. Trying to catch me off guard to make and ass me they fired off the question “So….You changed our music?!?”. Luckly I wasn’t too intoxicated and put on the fake face just said “I’m sorry ,was trying to help”. The turned around and went back to doing my thing. So I played good music and didn’t make an ass of myself in front of Daniel Lanois, mission accomplished.
