Pretense and Hate
June 29th, 2007
Ok recently I have come to conclusion that at least 90% of all people involved in music are complete retards. First of all I made a little venture to San Fran last weekend. At an after party for a show this girl we knew was throwing. (We were friends of friends of the girl throwing it I was just along for the ride). We got talking with this guy who was the drummer for this band I have never heard of, but I guess they live a few blocks from me in Los Feliz. Anyway he spends most of the time arguing with me trying to convince me how the Stroke’s drummer is the best drummer in modern music. He got so butt hurt that I kept on telling him he was ridiculous that he even bothered to complain to the girl who was having the party about me. He was apparently talking his band up so much I had to see what all the fuss was about. To hear the dudes band click here. You make the judgment I am already known as a shit talker. This dude didn’t even know who Qui, 400 Blows, HEALTH, Division Day, and The Mae Shi were. All the bands that live within 2 miles of the dude who have drummers that can rip the Stroke’s drummer a new asshole.
Next we come to the pretense of a lot of people who write about music. Just like David Yow quoted “Rock journalism is people who can’t write interviewing people who can’t talk for people who can’t read.” I got a snide remark to me by a typical person who has a big gay boner over Dim Mak and anyone who has enough money to buy PR. Anyway I was talking about the HEALTH, Mae Shi, Abe Vigoda show that was being put on by Sean Carnage a last Monday. Basically in an arrogant tone told me that all those bands suck and those shows are stupid. Just because Steve Aoki doesn’t make a shitty remix of their song doesn’t mean you need to hate on them. OK first of all those bands are all on labels so they have to be doing something right. Second of all they play $5 BYOB shows. Come on would you rather pay over $10 plus parking to see some jackass local “indie band” on the Sunset Strip and pay $8 per watered down drink. No. I mean if you are in to giving your money away to support Cock Rock venues who have dudes in spikey hair and express shirts running around outside that’s your choice. If you are in to mediocre “indie” bands that spend more time on how to rip their levis and how to cut their indie band so it falls right over their forehead rather than focusing on music that’s cool too. It’s your own thing. The Mae Shi pretty much sold out Bottom of the Hill last time they were in SF. HEALTH is going on a full UK Headlining tour this summer. They did all this by hard work and touring. And on top of that, THEIR MUSIC DOES NOT SUCK. So don’t knock what you don’t know. Go get a $50 salon haircut and spend your trust fund on $75 vintage shirts.
