Here in Los Angeles Sarrk is basically unknown as an electronic artist. In France he’s been getting some buzz due to collaborations done with French artists. Locally Sarrk’s mastermind aka Scott Martin is best known for his guitar slaying techniques in Crom and 400 Blows, cutting up random shows from local Armenian TV and his writing assignments such as going to local LA Afro American prison style gay bars. Regardless the man doesn’t put out crap. This is just the start of his electronic music. Here is a rough edit of some unreleased beats he has been working with. Enjoy!
Last April I had a had a weird instinct tell me to go to Africa. I know what you are already thinking. What this hell is this White Dude thinking?!?! He’s not black or from the 90s. I went in search of the something not knowing what and fell in love with the Los Angeles of Africa. You might wonder why I would call it this. I have 10 damn good reasons:
1. The Weather.
2. Most of the people don’t speak English.
3. Food is dirt cheap and amazing everywhere you go.
4. Palm Trees and Beaches Everywhere.
5. The Smokage is the better than most of Europe.
6. There are Mosques, Churches, and Synagogues foot steps away from each other.
7. Lots of Arab dudes smoking cigarettes on the street. Lots of Arab dudes with Mercedes. Lots of Arab dudes giving you the “hookup” because their cousin knows someone.
8. Ellen is on TV on the channel up from Al Jezera
9. 1/2 of the buildings look like they were at the hayday in the 70s and early 80s.
10. Most of the people come there are from somewhere else.
It is a beautiful place that is a strange cross between The Middle East, Africa, France, Spain, Portugal, the UK and even the United States. Enjoy the photos they were taken by my German friend Olaf. Homeboy didn’t like it as much as I did, but I could understand. German people are really into traveling to Mexico and Central America. It really confuses the hell out of us Californians why they like this.
Enjoy some pictures and some Sadistic French Disco since Moroccans don’t make dance music this is the next best thing.
Freethescene.com is known for telling you things on the LA underground scene before it happens. I can’t believe I didn’t drop this one. Well it happened already Dam Funk is huge. This is a DJ set I recorded of DAM right before I joined the Payday! crew. This set was dropped about a month before his debut 12″ release of the timeless hit Galactic Fun. If you didn’t know already, Dam Funk is the worlds Boogie Ambassador. This guy wrote the book on boogie, funk, and street cred. Homeboy was helping Mac 10 back in the day laying down shit. When you see this guy live as soon as he walks into the room all the sudden it gets funky. Just everything about this guy is Funk. When he DJs it’s all 100% wax original pressings, 2 turntables,an old school casio microphone (to keep the MC sounding backyard boogie status), and Los Angeles’s funkiest dude going to town on the decks. This is first DJ I have ever seen where I thought, “Thank GOD this guy exists, DJing is still progressing to another level, and this world isn’t doomed by sorority girls djing their Britney mashups through itunes”. Enough talking, enjoy this golden set, let me know what you think.
