Nu Boogie – Elijah Collins doing his thang

Wednesday, December 28th, 2011

In the middle of all the craziness this year, I randomly stumbled upon some new boogie tracks on soundcloud that were just mind blowing. For some reason, this mysterious pimp style side project of JnrJ named Elijah Collins, had only around 30 followers and was releasing banging after banging track. I was stumped why Elijah wasn’t huge and contacted him anxiously trying to get ahold of this dance floor fire. He hooked me up with the release and I have been using it ever since as a secret weapon for dirty disco parties across the Los Angeles area. Originally I wanted to keep this under the radar, but I guess word spreads quick about talent. Now Elijah has the #9 release in nu-disco on beatport for Love Is Down and has over 200 followers on soundcloud, without following 1000 people. Be on the look out for this guy in 2012 it doesn’t get more boogie than this!

Cosmic Kids Reginalds Groove

It was about 2 years ago when I first booked the Cosmic Kids to DJ Payday’s first night at the old Jimmy’s Lounge in Hollywood. At the time I was just physced there were other young guys in the their early 20′s who were as passionate about collecting cosmic disco vinyl as I was. Finally someone else in their 20s who thought Moroder and Gino Soccio was awesome. Last summer I was talking with Dan briefly about logic etc. and he mentioned he’s been looping some Steely Dan, making edits, etc. Now fast forward one year later and they have probably one of the hottest 12″s out in the nu-disco world titled Reginald’s Groove, that came out on Throne of Blood April 4th. With remixes from top shelf disco artists such as LA’s own Classixx, The UK’s Bicep, and Juan MacLean this is one of the few 12″s that you willl go down in your vinyl bag as a secret weapon. Listen for yourself and enjoy the free download of the classic TC Crew – Once Beats.

The Tangier Scene- The Los Angeles of Africa

Tangier Afterdark

Tangier Afterdark

Last April I had a had a weird instinct tell me to go to Africa. I know what you are already thinking. What this hell is this White Dude thinking?!?! He’s not black or from the 90s. I went in search of the something not knowing what and fell in love with the Los Angeles of Africa. You might wonder why I would call it this. I have 9 good reasons:

1. The Weather.
2. Most of the people don’t speak English.
3. Food is dirt cheap and amazing everywhere you go.
4. Palm Trees and Beaches Everywhere.
5. The Smokage is the better than most of Europe.
6. There are Mosques, Churches, and Synagogues foot steps away from each other.
7. Lots of Arab dudes smoking cigarettes on the street. Lots of Arab dudes with Mercedes. Lots of Arab dudes giving you the “hookup” because their cousin knows someone.
8. 1/2 of the buildings look like they were at the hayday in the 70s and early 80s.
9. Most of the people come there are from somewhere else.

It is a beautiful place that is a strange cross between The Middle East, Africa, France, Spain, Portugal, the UK and even the United States. Enjoy the photos they were taken by my German friend Olaf. Homeboy didn’t like it as much as I did, but I could understand. German people are really into traveling to Mexico and Central America. It really confuses the hell out of us Californians why they like this.

Enjoy some pictures!
