Desire Live in San Francisco
So first hearing
Desire you think, “Nice! Montreal is coming up!”. Dreamy French Canadian synth pop. The last Canadians to drop something this amazing, along this line was the Junior Boys, but we all know how the recent album sounds

. The real genius behind
Desire is actually from Portland’s own
Glass Candy. This is Johnny Jewel’s new project. You know anything he touches in the studio turns to gold. Basically what I get from Desire is Glass Candy if they were darker, sexier, French Canadian, and even deeper. Although the lyrics could be a little bit more original the music as a whole is amazing and still takes you to a land of French Canadian sexiness. Here are two tracks off the demo CDR which definitely catch the ear. The track names sound like they should be switched but I left it as what it was labeled as on the demo.

Sarrk Circa 2007
Here in Los Angeles
Sarrk is basically unknown as an electronic artist. In France he’s been getting some buzz due to collaborations done with French artists. Locally Sarrk’s mastermind aka Scott Martin is best known for his guitar slaying techniques in Crom and 400 Blows, cutting up random shows from local Armenian TV and his writing assignments such as going to local LA Afro American prison style gay bars. Regardless the man doesn’t put out crap. This is just the start of his electronic music. Here is a rough edit of some unreleased beats he has been working with. Enjoy!

DAM FUNK LIVE AT THE VINE BAR CIRCA 2008
Freethescene.com is known for telling you things on the LA underground scene before it happens. I can’t believe I didn’t drop this one. Well it happened already Dam Funk is huge. This is a DJ set I recorded of DAM right before I joined the Payday! crew. This set was dropped about a month before his debut 12″ release of the timeless hit Galactic Fun. If you didn’t know already, Dam Funk is the worlds Boogie Ambassador. This guy wrote the book on boogie, funk, and street cred. Homeboy was helping Mac 10 back in the day laying down shit. When you see this guy live as soon as he walks into the room all the sudden it gets funky. Just everything about this guy is Funk. When he DJs it’s all 100% wax original pressings, 2 turntables,an old school casio microphone (to keep the MC sounding backyard boogie status), and Los Angeles’s funkiest dude going to town on the decks. This is first DJ I have ever seen where I thought, “Thank GOD this guy exists, DJing is still progressing to another level, and this world isn’t doomed by sorority girls djing their Britney mashups through itunes”. Enough talking, enjoy this golden set, let me know what you think.

Sorry I have been MIA. I have been doing this XYXX project and DJing. Come check it out Nov. 21st at Pinche Way at the Mountian Bar for FREE. Music should be made and heard so writing about it has taken the back seat for the time being. Anyway I am glad to see my rants about bands have helped some artists over time who needed the well deserved credit. HEALTH is now playing arena rock with NIN. Good job guys!
